Record the month
Write down the money in and the money out, with the reason in plain words, and put anything you paid back to yourself on its own page, with the receipt.
For sons and daughters caring for a parent
When your mom or dad needs you, you step in because you love them. You want to protect them, care for them, and let them rest easy knowing their money is being looked after by someone who cares.
The free kit takes about ten minutes for one month, in a file that stays in your own account. Your family sees it only when you choose to share it, and The Proof Book never sees your parent's bank file.
If you're here
Why the record helps
When you write down what came in, what went out, and why, and you keep the receipt, you are not trying to remember the whole month later.
Handling someone else's money means that, sooner or later, someone may ask for an accounting. It might be the bank, an attorney, a court, Medicaid, or a brother or sister, and that is a normal part of the role. A clear record lets you answer calmly and get back to what matters, which is caring for your mom or dad.
Your family can read one simple page without a bank password, and the same file is ready if anyone ever needs the full picture.
From me
I'm a high school teacher, and what we have in common is that you are in a position to take care of your parent's finances, just as I was in the position to take care of mine. When you're doing the right thing and doing what's best for your loved ones, the last thing you want or need is someone questioning every expense. I've been there, and that's why I created The Proof Book. Not only is it for your parent's peace of mind, it's my hope that it helps you sleep a little better too.
Jeff
The company
The Proof Book is a set of simple, plain-English money records made by a high school teacher for sons and daughters caring for a parent. It is a trade name of The Chalk and Ledger Group LLC, an Ohio company. We are not lawyers, so we will not tell you what your power of attorney requires, and we will always point you to an elder-law attorney or CPA for decisions. What we can give you is a calm, reliable way to write down what came in, what went out, why, and where the receipt is.
58%
of family caregivers helping an adult also help manage that person's finances. A written record means you do not have to rely on memory.
Source: AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving, Caregiving in the U.S. 2025 (Figure 18, caregivers of an adult). The same study counts 63 million Americans who are family caregivers, including people who care for children as well as adults. This is not a measure of this site.
The method
Three steps, the same ones each month, so the record is ready if someone asks.
01
Write down the money in and the money out, with the reason in plain words, and put anything you paid back to yourself on its own page, with the receipt.
02
One page the family can read, without a bank password, showing what came in, what went out, and what you paid back to yourself, and you send it when you want them in the loop.
03
Keep adding each month to the same file, so years from now, if anyone asks about the last five years, the answer is already written down. Why the five-year record matters.
The shelf
The Complete Proof Book is $59 for the first 100 families, and it is the full set ($29 + $19 + $19 + $19 + $12 + $7 + $7 + $5 = $117 item by item), with every new download we add later at no extra cost. The POA Ledger is $29 on its own for the first 100 families, and after that it goes to $47. If a file does not work or is not what was described, email us within 30 days and we will fix it or refund it.
01
The full set of eight pieces: the POA Ledger, the Estate Handoff Pages, the Caregiver Reimbursement Log, the Yearly Summary, the Everything in One Place Inventory, the Bills and Due Dates Calendar, the Family Meeting Kit, and the Scam and Fraud Shield. The ledger is $29 on its own for the first 100 families, then $47, and the estate pages are $19. The other six pieces are also sold on their own, from $5 to $19.
The $59 price is for the first 100 families. Item by item, the eight pieces add up to $29 + $19 + $19 + $19 + $12 + $7 + $7 + $5 = $117. Every new download we add to the set later is sent free to the email you used at checkout.
$117 $59

The workbook for a parent's money, with 14 tabs, printable pages, eight short written lessons, and a five-year summary. It opens in Excel and in Google Sheets.
The $29 price is only for the first 100 families, and after that the Ledger is $47.
$47 $29

A checkout add-on for the day the record has to pass to an executor. It tracks the handoff, the tasks, and a final accounting. It is bookkeeping, not an estate plan.

A one-page Family Update, the First 30 Days as POA checklist, and a filled-in sample month. You keep this kit even if you refund a paid file.

An online version is on the way. The same list, with a few more words, is on the shop page.
The core
The workbook opens in Excel and in Google Sheets. You keep it in your own account, and the statements stay with you.
Every dollar in and every dollar out, with a running balance and the reason in ordinary words.
What you paid from your own pocket, what was repaid, and what is still owed, checked against the register.
A number, a vendor, and where the paper lives, with a check that the number appears on a line.
One row per account per month. It says Balanced when the register matches the statement.
Who asked, what they asked, and what you shared, so you do not have to hold it in your head.
A separate page with a hard stop: talk to an elder-law attorney before money moves as a gift.
Hours, if you choose to track them. The log is a record, not permission to pay yourself.
Every category for each month of a year, with totals and month-end balances.
Sixty months in one table, with year-by-year and category totals. You can print that sheet or download it. It is a record, not a Medicaid plan.
Twelve printable pages, from the cover through the five-year page, for a kitchen table or a folder in the desk.
The How to Use guide includes eight short lessons on bookkeeping. They are written pages, not a video.
What we can stand behind
These are ordinary bookkeeping pages, with a date, who was paid, the amount, the reason, and where the receipt is. That is how you show their money was handled with care. The Proof Book is a trade name of The Chalk and Ledger Group LLC, in Ohio.
Plain answers
No. The Proof Book is organizational templates for bookkeeping. Decisions about gifts, transfers, caregiver pay, taxes, or Medicaid belong with a qualified attorney or accountant.
No. You keep the spreadsheet in your own account, and a bank export you paste there stays in that file. The free kit is delivered through Payhip, our checkout partner, which asks for your email so it can send the download.
You get a fillable one-page Family Update, a spreadsheet that opens in Excel and in Google Sheets, the First 30 Days as POA checklist, and a filled-in sample month for a fictional family. A first pass on the one-page update is meant to take about ten minutes. You keep the kit even if you later refund a paid file.
It is made for you if you are caring for a parent and also handling their money, whether you already act under a power of attorney or expect to soon. It gives your parent a clear record of where their money went, and it gives you a calm answer if the bank, an attorney, a court, Medicaid, or a family member ever asks.
No. An elder-law attorney should handle the power of attorney itself, any gifts or transfers, Medicaid planning, and anything a court may review. The POA Ledger simply helps you walk into that meeting with your months already organized.
Email [email protected] within 30 days of purchase. If a file does not work or is not what was described, we will fix it or refund it. You keep the free Family Update Kit either way. The refund policy is on this site.

When you want a place to start
One month of your parent's money on one clear page, in a sheet that stays in your account. You decide when to share it with the family.
The free kit is delivered through Payhip, which emails you the download. Your parent's bank details never come to us, and nothing goes to your family unless you share it. This is record-keeping, not legal, tax, or financial advice.
